1. World Bank praises India's coronavirus contact tracing app 'Aarogya Setu'. 

World bank in its South Economic focus report praised India's Aarogya setu app aimed at curbing the spread of coronavirus with the help of contact tracing. Digital technolo9gies can also be used to monitor the spread of COVID-19 world Bank sais citing "Aarogya Setu' as an example. "Such initiatives have been successful in helping combat pandemic it added.






2. Researchers developed a digital stethoscope

A team at Indian Institute of Technology of Bombay has developed a digital stethoscope
It can listen to heart beast from a distance and record them, minimising the risk of healthcare professionals contracting the novel coronavirus from patients.
 This can help doctors and medical professionals practice social distancing with ease.






3. Legendary driver Stirling Moss passed away

Stirling Moss passed away in April 2020. He is the great motor-racing driver and one of the most lionised figures in the history of British sport.
Moss rose to fame after the Second World war and went on to be acclaimed as the greatest all-round racer ever. Moss first Grand Prix victory came in the 1955 British Grand Prix at Aintree as he become the first British driver to win the event.





4. Prasar Bharti launched DD Retro 

Public service broadcaster Prasar Bharti has launched a new channel specifically dedicated to old classics called DD Retro.
For now, DD Retro is airing the same shows that DD national had brought back in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak to keep viewers engaged. Apart from mythological epic Ramayana, the classics revived on the network are Chanakya, Shktiman, Shriman Shrimati, etc.





5. GMR to develop Bhogapuram int, Airport

GMR Airport Ltd has received Letter of award for the development and operations of Bhogapuram International Airport in Andhra Pradesh. In Feb 2019. GMR Airport had emerged as the highest bidder for a project on a public-private partnership basis.
The project involves the design, finance, construction, development, modernization, operation of Bhogapuram International Airport for 40 years.






6. 101st anniversary of Jallianwala Bagh Massacre:

Jallianwala Bagh massacre also called the Massacre of Amritsar marked its 101st anniversary on 13 April 2020.

 In 19191, the British troops, under General Dyer, fired on a large crowd of unarmed Indians in an open space - Jallianwala Bagh in Amristar in the Punjab region.
The Killed most of the people gathered there.






7. Major Oil producers agree to output cuts

Major Oil producers except Mexico have agreed to cut output in May and June 2020 by
10 million per barrels per day.
The agreement which reduces production to eight million barrels per day from July to December depends on Mexico's support for it to take effect. Global fuel demand has plunged by around 30 million barrels per day or 30% supplies.






8. HRD minister launched web portal "YUKTI"

Minister for HRD Ramesh Pokgriya Nishak has launched a web-portal YUKTI( Young India Combating COVID with Knowlege, Technology and Innovation_ in New Delhi.
The portal and dashboard will monitor and record the efforts and initiatives of Ministery of HRD. It intends to cover different dimensions of COVID-19 challenges in a holistic and comprehensive way.




9. KVIC successfully developed Khadi mask

Khadi and Village Industries Commission has successfully developed a double-layered Khadi mask and has procured orders for supplying it in large quantities.
The Commission is specifically using double twisted khadi fabric for manufacturing of these masks as it helps retain 70 per cent of the moisture content inside while providing easy passage for the air to pass through. 


10. India send wheat to Afghanistan

India has shipped the 1st consignment of 5022 metric tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan to ensure food security during COVID-19  pandemic.
251 containers carrying the first consignment out of the total gift of 7500. metric tonnes from India to Afghanistan set sail from Kandl port to Chabahar port on 12 April 2020.
New Delhi will also send 5 lakh hydroxychloroquine tablets soon.
